Youth Safe Space Sustainability

The Youth Safe Space Sustainability (YSSS) project is focused on strengthening relationships between all Youth Serving Safe Spaces in the city of Winnipeg.

The project includes one Youth Safe Space Sustainability Coordinator, whose key role is to work alongside management and staff of YSSS locations in the areas of training, risk assessment, and connecting safe spaces to community resources and services they can promote.

The YSSS project will also provide a rotating team of three Mental Health Workers who will offer activities that promote the mental wellness of youth participants and assist staff in providing enhanced mental health support. These activities may include hosting sharing circles, information sessions, providing resources and advocacy, and offering one-on-one or small-group counselling sessions.

The goals of this project are to stabilize and strengthen Winnipeg’s overnight youth safety infrastructure, reduce staff turnover and burnout, ensure consistent and effective operation of safe spaces, and enhance service delivery for sexually exploited and gang-involved Indigenous youth.
