Magnus Eliason Recreation Center (MERC) is home to many diverse programs to assist the community. The MERC is a city-owned facility, and Spence Neighbourhood Association runs many programs and activities for children, youth, and the community.

The MERC is home to many Spence Neighbourhood programming and Community Events!
Our Building Belonging Program offers free structured programming for children ages 6-12 in the Spence neighbourhood at the Magnus Eliason Recreation Centre (430 Langside St.). Our school year program runs September to June, Monday to Friday from 3:30-5:30 with pickup from John M King and Sister MacNamara schools and drive home available within the neighbourhood. Our Summer program runs July and August from 12-3pm with pickup from, and drive home.Â

SNA Newcomer Youth/Youth Drop In Program is open to anyone ages 12-18. New youth are welcome anytime! The Newcomer Youth/Youth Drop In Program runs out of the Magnus Eliason Recreation Centre (MERC) located at 430 Langside Street – Monday to Friday, 6:30 pm-9 pm. A full healthy meal is served every evening and a safe ride home or bus tickets are provided at the end of every night. Structured activities are planned every evening and youth have the option of coming and just hanging out with staff, being creative with crafts, or using the gym. Summer outings including going to the beaches, sports games, movies, skating, bowling, roller skating, and many more! All of these activities are free to registered youth.Â

SNA’s West End 24 Hour Safe Space for Youth (also known as WE24) operates out of 430 Langside Street (in Winnipeg, MB) and provides an overnight space for youth ages 13-26 to rest, relax, access food, resources, and basic needs, in a supportive, kind, and warm environment.
Hours: Nightly from 11 pm – 7 am

Learn, Connect, and Get involved.
Community connecting nights will consist of a series of in-person gatherings that aim to give community members an opportunity to learn, connect and get involved. A main component of the program is to help educate community members about specific issues in the community and how we can work together to address them. The event will feature presentations, performances, food and free roam style discussion groups at the end of the event for more specific information. Hope to see you there!Â

Mail can be picked up Monday – Friday, 10 am – 3 pm.

Spence Neighbourhood Association at The MERC
- City run programs including paid and free programming. Come stop by the front desk to grab a City of Winnipeg Leisure Guide!
- Splash Pad that operates all Summer. Come cool off on those hot Summer days. Free to the Public!
- Water tap outside for Public drinking located on the wall on the park side of the building. Play structure for kids to have fun and play safely!
- Public Basketball courts outside. Come have a scrimmage or a serious but safe 1-on-1.
- Recycling Drop-Off located around the back of the building. (large metal container next to the garbage bin).
- Cooling Zone during the hot Summer and Warming Zone during the cold Winter. Stop by for 15 minutes and cool or warm up!
- Resource Hub. We have many posters, informative pamphlet's, and we can try and point you in the right direction to various other agencies for various types of assistance.
- Spence Neighbourhood tries to keep stocked on snacks for Community Members who may need a little food. We often have snacks in stock to help. We do run out occasionally but do our best to help the Community when we can!
- Safe Space with staff that have a strong passion to help. We will always do our best to assist in connecting Community Members with our other spaces or other agencies to assist.
