Mother Ink Tattoo Removal is a project with a distinct mission: to provide individuals, especially those seeking to exit gang life, with the opportunity to remove gang-related tattoos. This process is not only symbolic but also pivotal in helping these individuals secure better employment prospects and reintegrate into society.
The driving force behind Mother Ink Tattoo Removal, Della, goes above and beyond mere tattoo removal. She offers a safe and empathetic environment where her clients can open up about the challenges they face in their journey to reintegrate into society.
Alongside the removal sessions, Della offers her clients invaluable support, which includes accompanying them to vital appointments, imparting life skills, and serving as a mentor throughout the entire process. What sets Mother Ink Tattoo Removal apart is its commitment to providing these services free of charge, making it the only known service of its kind in the area.
Mother Ink Tattoo Removal Program is open from 10:00am – 5:00pm during the weekdays excluding Wednesdays at 3-505 Sargent Avenue. The program operates by appointment and Walk-ins are welcome.
Wednesdays – Della visits the Headingley Men’s Correctional Institution, Headingley Women’s Correctional Institution, and the Manitoba Youth Center every Wednesday to remove tattoos from participants in the pre-release sector.
When participants leave the prison system with former gang tattoos it creates barriers and causes difficulty for them to transition into everyday living.
Removing their tattoos helps participants with the physical and mental barriers they experience.
