Are you or someone you know between 6-12 years old? Live in the Spence area? Want to have fun, meet friends and get to know your community? Join Building Belonging! Building Belonging is an initiative of the Spence Neighbourhood Association designed as an after school program for children 6-12.
We are dedicated to providing children in the Spence neighbourhood with a sense of ownership and belonging in our diverse and vibrant community. By fostering creativity, sharing our cultures, taking part in local events, planting vegetables, or just playing together outside, we encourage kids to get involved!
We strive to provide access to recreation and healthy options for food. We feed nutritious meals to up to 30 children a day. Kids cook once a week to learn easy ways to make inexpensive snacks and meals, while maintaining a balanced diet and healthy eating habits. Our SNA Kids Garden provides fresh veggies and fruit in the summer and teaches kids how their food is grown while we learn about the environment. We go swimming at local pools, try new sports such as cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and gymnastics and provide skates, skateboards, helmets and sleds so that every child can play.
We ask all participants, volunteers and staff members to be respectful, safe, engaged and accountable in our program.
Building Belonging Summer 2024 Program for children ages 6-12 from 12 to 3pm starts July 8th and ends August 23rd at the Magnus Eliason Recreation Centre (430 Langside St.) with a daily meal and structured activities. Registration forms are available at the M.E.R.C (430 Langside St.)
