BIG News for Renters! 🎉

For the past year our Indigenous Input in Local Housing Project has been lobbying for regulations around the collection of security/damage deposits upon application and how this can be a barrier to securing housing for many people with limited income. 

We are happy to see that regulations have been put in place!  Bill 239 passed Royal Assent on May 30th, 2023 and came into effect May 31st, 2023.  Landlords and property management companies can no longer ask for a deposit upon application.  See the full amendment at https://web2.gov.mb.ca/bills/42-5/b239e.php
