SNA administers Small Grants for community connecting projects and activities. These grants are available for community groups and organizations. Small Grants are available up to $5,000.
This year, priority will be given to first-time applicants and projects that work on community beautification.

Previous projects have included:

- Tree-banding on a street
- a street party
- a community meeting
- improvements to a community space
- cleaning up a back lane
- a public art project
- supports for a basketball team

There will be one intake date this year – March 12. All application must be in on or before the intake date.

Applications will be reviewed by the Small Grants committee in March. A final decision will be made at the March Board meeting.

Applications are approved according to the following criteria. They must:

- Show how the project meets the goal of community building/connecting
- Have identified support from local residents
- Be sponsored by local groups (not individuals)
- Not to be used for capital improvements to private property unless the property has been made available, free of charge, for community use and the improvements relate to proposed community use
- Not to be used for any individual gain, or material benefit
- Must be completed by December 2012

Eligible applicants will be invited to make a very short presentation to the Small Grants Committee at time and location to be announced.

Recent fires in our community have left many community residents in an emergency situation and many are now seeking the very basics to start over. In response to these tragic fires in the community, Spence Neighbourhood Association set up an Emergency Response Project for residents displaced due to situations beyond their control.

We are currently accepting gently used small household items to assist displaced residents. If anything else is needed, please see our Community Connector for a list of local resources at 615 Ellice Ave.

If you would like to make a cash donation, please stop by our office at 615 Ellice. A charitable tax receipt will be given to all donations over $10.00, or visit our website to make a donation on line at www.spenceneighbourhood.org, called CanadaHelp.org. You may specify which program/project you would like your donation to go towards.

Dishes, cups, cutlery, storage containers,

Linen, sheets and blankets
Winter coats
Kitchen Towels, Dish Clothes and non-perishable foods
We are NOT accepting any furniture items

Any women’s clothing or toy items can be donated to WCWRC at 640 Ellice Ave.

Any clothing for men can be donated to John Howard Society at 583 Ellice Ave.

Everyone is invited to come to the Spence Neighbourhood Association’s open house this Friday. This is an opportunity for staff, community members and funders to meet and mingle. Come learn about what we do at the SNA, enjoy some tasty snacks, and hear highlights from 2011.

The SNA Family Holiday Feast is this Sunday, 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm. It’s free for kids 6-12 and their families. There’s still time to register. Call 783-0292 and register your kids with their names and ages by Friday, Dec. 9.

There will be food, games, crafts, and maybe a special visitor will stop in!

Check out this video our kids did with Jr. Just TV. The kids came up with the song, and the Just TV folks produced it and filmed the video. The final product looks and sounds awesome.
